I have windows xp sp2 in a Dell dimension E310( I know its old but it works). IE8 (OEM) has been corrupted to a point that there is only 3.08 MB left.Something happened during an upgrade that microsoft and Dell cannot figure out.Dell suggests a full PC restore but I would lose too much data even following a full backup. The main problem is: I cannot fully uninstall it and cannot re-intall IE8.The system will not allow it. The computer runs fine with Firefox 13 so I can still use the net but since IE is part of my operating system, its inability to work is creating little problems and there are certain operations that require IE be fully functional. I cannot get the home page and cannot even access "internet options" on control panel. I thought I would ask in this forum before doing anything drastic Does anyone know how to restore IE if it cannot be downloaded from Microsoft, cannot be completely removed, and will not open so I cannot access the IE options. Is there anything that can be done? Dell wants 150 dollars to TRY and fix the problem. I may as well buy a new computer before paying to give this dinosaur wings.Does anyone know what has happened and/or how to fix IE without a complete PC restore? None of the MS "fix it" solutions work and microsoft refuses to help since Dell was the OEM. Thank You

Do you mean there is only 3.08 MB of free space left on the hard drive? Nothing at all should work in that situation.

A full Recover is not a bad thing. Copy your documents to a safe place first. Round up any drivers that came with your system and any software you installed first.

A lot of users Recover every six months or so. It takes a couple of days the first time, but it makes a brand new system.

the laptop in straight forward terms known like it had frozen (in specific circumstances it quite is that this way for over an hour on older machines). as a consequence, the O/S is a million/2 way by a straightforward gadget exchange and can no longer verify what data it is going to run. with none fix factors, you have got the means to reset the laptop back to its production unit situation, if Dell blanketed a hidden partition so you might try this. Or in case you have a living house windows disk, reinstall living house windows. the two way, you will lose each and all the guidance on your annoyingcontinual. If this know-how is useful, purchase a clean inner annoyingcontinual and alter out the old one. purchase a disk caddy to living house the aggravatingcontinual which you will hook up with the computing gadget utilising a usb cable. set up the O/S on the newcontinual. after all the living house windows updates and different application updates, like firewalls and antivirus application, connect the oldcontinual with the cable and import your data from the oldcontinual onto the hot one. in case you do not have an O/S disk, use yet another laptop to get better your data. get rid of the aggravatingcontinual, put in a disk caddy as in the previous, connect by utilising way of USB. Then reinsert into the computing gadget and run Dell's fix application, to repair the computing gadget to production unit situation. If all this feels like too plenty, take it to a restoration save and tell them you do no longer desire to lose any archives. Be arranged to pay for a clean annoyingcontinual and probable a clean reproduction of the living house windows O/S. restoration fees are quite low presently in many circumstances (get a quote), a 500GB annoyingcontinual is £50 or much less and living house windows 7 will cost as much as £one hundred (do no longer hassle with Vista returned).
