I am a music producer and composer since back in the 70s. Let me tell you this:

1. There is no such thing as a free music production software, money will have to be paid. Don't download any software that claims it's free or else you will get your computer infected with a virus.

2. Anyone can make music these days, the technology allows you to make extraordinary music/beats with no skills at all

The best music production software price-features wise it's Dr Drum. Basically this program does what $1500 programs do but costs only $29. That's a steal. And I have to say it's the easiest program to learn. Check it out here: http://www.doctordrum.pw

Most beginners and aspiring music producers have trouble choosing the best beat making software from a large number of software online. There are many beat software online both free and paid that do not even have the basic features a beat software should have. I will be sharing the five basic features a beat software should and must have.

Since it all about sounds, without sounds there is no beat and without beat, no music. A good beat making software must have a large, robust sample & sound library of sounds, this is very important because the more sounds the more the beat you can make with the software. The library must include sounds like whistle, claps and more. This will increase your creativity.

A good software must have video tutorial that will you through the process of making your first beat without much hassle. The video tutorial will be very helpful especially for beginner, it means you can master the software in no time. However the quality of the video tutorial is not so important because it is not about how professionally produced the video is but how helpful and effective it is.

Cubase - Serious music production software for PC & Mac. The first version came out in 1989 and has been one of the market leaders ever since. Requires a little more hard work than Ableton, but is a much more powerful program. May be a bit too advanced at the moment if you are just looking to smash around with your synth.

Logic - For the Mac faithful only. Amazing piece of software, but again, has a steeper learning curve than Ableton.

When you go clubbing, do you ever wonder how the DJ was able to lay down those tracks?

Ableton Live - Useful for both music production and live dj performance. Makes it very easy to mix samples and loops together with tracks on the fly allowing you to get creative very fast. Supports MIDI input and output so you will have no trouble plugging your synth into your soundcard and patching it into Ableton. It will record your keystrokes and parameter adjustments as MIDI commands (PC & Mac)

By the sounds of it, Ableton would best suit your current goal of quickly getting some sounds together and seeing what you can come up with.

The best consumer grade software for this would be Garage Band, which is part of the iLife suite ($70). As for professional grade software, you'll want Logic Studio ($500).

Depends on your level of software editing experience. I won't lay claim to having heaps of experience, but I would say I'm more than adequately capable of creating and editing music under my own steam (this doesn't mean it would take me years to run off a decent track, it just means I can do these things quite comfortably without any kind of guidance!). Fruit Loops is good, but then it is a bit more complicated in terms of user friendly capabilities. It can be a bit daunting for a noobie software musician. Magix Music Maker has plenty of user friendly aspects to it, but it is STILL as buggy as hell, BUT it does have solutions you can find if you go looking for them (particularly on youtube - which helped me personally no end!). Your best bet is to download demos of the software mentioned already, see what you make of it, and go with what you think you'd be most comfortable using. The unfortunate thing with a lot of music software (at least the sort you'd create any tracks yourself with) is that they all have their own limitations - and these can be either negated or worsened by a user's understanding of them, and also by whether or not that person can catch on pretty quickly as to what's what. I use Magix, but I also use a lot of others - I have the same issue with a lot of art programs (I cross reference a lot of stuff regardless of whether it's graphical or musical!). As with any kind of software of a particular kind, there are positives and negatives involved with them, and these vary based on the software itself and the user who uses them. It's up to you to make the most of what you get. Download some demos and make your mind up from that, because not everyone has the same level of experience and the same level of understanding and experience from using any particular program or a whole plethora of programs of the same type judging by what you might need. When it comes to artistic preference you can't beat trial and error, because some people really skilled with any particular program might say that it's the mutt's nuts, but you could get it and go "uh.....wtf?!", and then you would be out of pocket, and scratching your head as well!

The software suggested thus far not only by myself but the other answerers to your question are the most likely to fit your requirements, but you should really check as much of the software out as you can before you decide to go with one particular option - as cross-referencing from one piece of software to another can be particularly messy with audio files, it's not quite so complicated with graphics files. Best of luck!

Ever wanted to create beats like the pros' but didn't know where to start?

Like a lot of people you might think a professional studio, thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment and years of studying is required.

Well that may have been true some years ago but with the advancements in technology its now possible to make studio quality beats on your PC or MAC from the comfort of your own home.

Introducing Dr Drum the sickest beat maker to hit the market, easy to use yet no compromising on quality.

You can literally start making beats in any genre from day one.

But don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself to see how good it really is!

If you are far more interested in studying to speak Spanish than go through or write it (they do teach reading through and creating but speaking is far far more heavily emphasized)

Everyone else is hiding the best 1 from you. I've been using the best one to get my music placed in films, tv shows, and I just signed an official 1 year management contract all thanks to http://bit.ly/best2014beatmaker As of now, I've made over 15,000 pounds from it. If your serious about your music you need to go get it.
