User friendly / familiarity.

For home use, people can use Microsoft Access as a phone book (I do anyway).

It's user friendlier than other programs I've used.

I don't know anything about programming, but I've learned the Microsoft Office Suite. I don't need any further education in terms of programming language in order to develop a database.

For people who work in an office, Access is a convenient tool that works fine. No need for a programmer or a tech.

Access is for databases:-

Four big selling points and the target market can't be dumb-asses who buy cars. As proven by the fact that it isn't released in the normal way; like word, excel and powerpoint. It is a business tool whose work could mostly be performed by excel. You didn't know that did you? What family needs to write a bloody database?

What the feck does a database do that's so special. Excel could store the info but it has to be searched in specizal ways remotely accessed by different types of software Sage, say.

So companies care about

-ODBC open database connectivity - which means that this product can act as a 'front-end' to 'platform independant' DBMS's

(database management systems) regardless of the programming language used, the database system, the operating system and thereby: the machine architecture [chip and board etc]

-Access integrates perfectly with the other office components using the same tools and interface where appropriate for ease of familiarity which eases the workload. Its flexible and intuitive GUI together with a powerful database engine make this an almost unique product

-Training is easiest to find for Access than any other similar product. You can easily find training centres anywhere in the world in most towns and cities.

-Newly improved voice recognition allows for a whole new aspect to handling your data. Voice commands for certain operations or all input can only make your life easier.

With all of the new ribbon menu's, it is very useful. The new visualizations and organization makes it an exceptional program for an office beginner, or an expert.

I guess it is good for that kind of thing, but it really depends on what you need too do, because there is likely way better stuff out there for certain things.... but Microsoft office will work fine for certain things...

If you are really looking into the microsoft office deal, try open office.. it is a free product comparable of microsoft office, and can do almost everything microsoft office can do.

Oh, awesome.

Okay

Office 2007 has publisher, word, power point, and I forgot the others because I'm not on my computer.

Anyway,

You can create flyers and news letters with publisher.

Word has a thesaurus and other features where you can find a word and replace all of that word with the word you've chosen.

Also, you can create schedules.

Theres a lot more and a free 60 day trial at microsoft office .com thing
