It is beinging to feel like update spam. I don't know what this update will do and the only options are "continue" or "cancel" and even then no where does my computer (XP Vista) tell me what it was about. Has anyone else expereinced this or could you explain it to me?

I usually click "continue" as this is the only thing that makes the box stop interrupting my comuter use, but now I am worried i have been accepting somesort of malware.

Thanks for your help.

You do need it for your pc to run Java applications properly on websites, something you don't really pay attention to but is necessary. So keep your mind at rest and stop worrying as it isn't malware. However, you don't need to do it every time it pops up. You could do it every other time...

Java's useful and it's definitely best to keep it up-to-date but it doesn't get updated every day, maybe a few times a year. There's some info here about Java Update, see if it helps http://java.com/en/download/help/java_update.xml

Might be worth checking which version you have, the latest is 1.6.0_17 http://www.javatester.org/version.html

It's best to delete old versions if they are still on your pc, use Add/Remove Programs.

If you're worried about malware, run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free) http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

I think Y/A has a glitch in it. Here lately I have noticed that after I answer a question sometimes it will say I have like 3 thumbs downs, then I'll go back to the question and have none at all. Also, with voting, sometimes I'll vote and it will give the vote to an answer I didn't choose.
