Torrent-downloading: Do you ave to let the file seed after downloading it?

Question

I just downloaded my first torrent file using utorrent, and the downloading prcess reached 100%. Now its on the seeding process. Do I have to wait until this is done to be able to use the file I downloaded? Is that even important at all? Can I just close out of it? What's it for?

Also, the file I downloaded was a pc game (an old one). When I go to the "downloads folder on my computer, where the game was downloaded onto, the file is not a game. It's a "7z" file and I don't know what that means. How do I make it so that I can play the game?

That is a 7Zip file, which is a compressed file and it needs to be unpacked to see the content you want.



7Zip is free. After install, right-click on a 7z file and select 7Zip and then extract. All the file will extract and you will see the game.

In bittorrent the content is transferred using the upload bandwidth of the users. So, you got the game because someone else stayed to seed after they completed their download. It is good to seed back to at least a 1:1 ratio, so you have given back as much as you got. This keeps torrents alive and healthy. You can set a seeding limit in uTorrent at Options>Preferences>Queueing.



You can use the file now. Since the 7z files are the content associated with the torrent, once you extract you can move and use the game and still continue seeding by leaving the 7z files in the download folder.

OK I download many things from torrents after you downloaded something just minimize the utorrent program and do not close it and not delete it. That prog. like in any others ( I use bitlord) it shows how many seeders and peers they are and shows how it uploads let it upload to help others use it too. If it dose not upload anymore u can delete it. U will observe that It depends how many users of the same torrent are. U do not have to wait just leave it as much time as U like.

7z it is a rar file it means that your file are packed to not occupy so much space. U can open it with programz called WINRAR Or 7z or any other package program. If U can find one search the torrents.

P.S always look out for the seed when U download something more seeds faster U download!

U can stop just after u have downloaded

but thats not a good practice in torrent

u should upload(seed) atleast till ur share ratio(upload/download)
