I agree with the person who said Illustrator is better - gives you way more control. If you create text in illustrator, and then drag and drop it into Photoshop, it will automatically create a smart object. That means anytime you double click the little icon in your layer palate, it will open up the text in illustrator (or whatever program created it.) It also preserves the vector qualities, which means you can scale it without resolution loss. (in order to get the same versatility in Photoshop you have to rasterize the text, which turns it into pixels and starts the problems with resolution.) If you absolutely have to work with fonts in Photoshop, just use your font tool to change color. Highlight the text, and then go up to your font controls at the top. There is a color tablet there, just like the one in your tools palate. Change the color there. If you need to scale the text or squish it or anything like that, just Option+T (Ctrl+T on PC) and do what you will to that poor text. . .cheers!

just click the text tool (assuming you just want to type in a straight line) click the text tool in the art space and start typing... thats it. and to edit, click the text layer and grab the txt tool again. outline it as you would in Word and the top panen will have the font, size, color... bla bla bla.

i think illustrator is a better program for playing with text tho.
