Can you copy the .iso to a blank CD-R or does it have to be a DVD-R then install it using Boot Camp?

It all depends. Macs don't use BIOS like PCs do - PowerPC Macs use Open Firmware and Intel Macs use EFI. There are both Intel and PowerPC versions of Linux that will install on a Mac, but the process is somewhat complicated if you're not using an Intel Mac with Leopard. Canonical (the company behind Ubuntu) provides installation instructions for both Intel and PowerPC Macs - just follow those and you shouldn't have any problems.

you dont need boot camp just install linux on another partition and it will install its own bootloader where you can either select linux or mac(and you can burn an iso to both a cd and dvd, it dosnt matter

DON'T LISTEN TO JOHN.

You have a mac. Macs are stupid. If you attempt to use the livecd to install linux, it will change the formatted partition into unrecoverable space. I have seen this happen. It was lulsy.

open the boot camp application and it should have instructions.
