when i was installing linux i decided to write over the partion of my disk that had windows recovery enviroment on it. i didn'tn realize that windows would need both to boot. also i assigned what i believe to be my data as linux swap (expecting that i would be able to acess it on linux) but i cant find it (the partion is still their and unformated). im not the best when it comes to linux and i miss the simplicity of windows. also the reason i switched to linux was beacuse it beacame too slow so if their is anyway to fix that to it would be much appriciated.

You miss the simplicity of windows? I think you are confused.

Yep- if you wrote over the windows partition then the only way to get it back it to re-install it.

Edit: If you do re-install windows and get it working again.....and later decide to try Linux again- then just leave your partitions alone.....and select "install linux alongside windows- let the installer handle the partitions. That way you can select windows on startup- if that is what you want to run.

You will probably have to dump linux to reformat for windows. Once windows is running- download Eazy BCD into windows and install it. Then just leave it sit. If later on you decide to remove linux- let easy bcd do it...it will remove linux, grub, and rewrite your mbr. Easy as 1-2-3.

Check the website of your computer maker for recovery disks. They probably offer a disk to recover the recovery partition for a price.

If you have deleted the recovery partition you will need a DVD with a copy of Windows on it to re-install the operating system.
