I'd like to know how to delay the Shatter effect in After Effects so that my text shows for about 3 seconds and then shatters.
PS I'm a beginner with AE.
Thanks

You'll just need to keyframe it so that it starts at the time you want it to shatter.

This is actually pretty simple:

once you apply the shatter effect to your layer, it begins at the first frame and there is no way to change it or delay it within the effect. So what you need to do is drag the actual layer forward in the timeline a few seconds so that it begins where you want it. Then grab the edge of the starting point (the arrow will turn into the trimmer tool when you hover over the edge) and trim it back to the beginning of the timeline again. this way the layer starts at frame 1 but the shatter effect doesn't begin until a few seconds in.
