I refer to blogs such as this http://linuxhaters.blogspot.com/2008/06/evolution-of-ubuntu-user.html unfortunately it contains language that some may find offensive. But my question is what makes some people despise this fine distro. so much. Has it become too popular so some Linux users can no longer consider themselves members of an elitist club. Whats the problem with some in the Linux community as the likes of Ubuntu are catching on as mainstream players. Your thoughts.

Come on you should know better this people are idi*ts who always believe they are right

They need Apple to fix up their system before they can use it

They don't know how to troubleshoot their computers

Call vendors when they downloaded and install virus on their PCs

Freak out when they saw the terminal

Blame computer vendors when they got infected by virus

Happily fork out 2000+ to buy a Apple PC because they think Apple PC uses some super processor that is better than Intel (MACS uses Intel)

Why would you bother about them?

They know nothing about PC

Ever since you installed Linux I am sure you learnt a lot more about PCs and UNIX system

Why are you so bothered by PC-Smart Alec

Those using GNU/Linux systems know they are a higher elite know it and improve yourself along the way

Ignore those people

P.S Lug i think you can try out Debian by forcing yourself to a poweruser distro you can learn a lot more

Try to make a Debian System into a Ubuntu system

I promise the reward will be great

I think what that blog deserve is probably a Linux hacker to take it down unless the intention was just to grab attention

The blog targeted all GNU/Linux Users

Sorry for the language the words on that link affected me

Edit:

Btw that person you had a problem with is a loser

Why

I suggested to him to learn to custom Kernel he called me names

Now on his blog is a new entry on Kernel Compilation

Apparently he says one thing and do another What a hypocrite

Since I have entered the Linux world about a little over a year ago I have noticed just what you are talking about. I think you may be onto something about Linux users feeling like they are part of an elitist club. It has always struck me as funny that while they are elitist they also can't understand why everyone doesn't use what they are using. This may also explain some of the anti-Ubuntu folks out there. Ubuntu is very much a distro for the average user.

I am I suppose close to a power user, maybe. I am atleast or was a very competent windows user and found that Ubuntu was by far the easiest distro to learn, and once the learning curve is met it is much easier to continue using than windows. Ubuntu also has a very friendly community which is much better than I can say about some I have browsed around on.

Overall It seems to come down to your first point of the Linux elitist out there but thankfully in the Ubuntu community they are few and far between.

I agree - for some, being a Linux user is a badge of honor. They get frustrated when people who don't even know what Linux is suddenly become users. And I see their point, to a degree - as a PC tech, I find it frustrating when clueless people use computers in general. Sometimes they make me want to pull my hair out. The same thing goes for Linux users - it used to be that if someone used Linux, they had a certain amount of computer savvy. Ubuntu is trying to bring Linux to the masses, which I agree is a good thing. But the results can sometimes be frustrating for us geeks.

I found the blog amusing, since I run Ubuntu at home, and I started on the VAX, then graduated to the Amiga. I'd been using computers for 7 years (VAX, IBM mainframe, Amiga, HP-UX, AIX) before I even touched Windows for the first time.

This is a typical Mac user for you, they're too smug and up-their-own-ars* to notice the flaws that the Mac OSX has. After reading the first part of the blog post you provided me with I knew this was the work of another Steve Jobs clone and, to my surprise, I read the rest of the post and what do you know, "At this point, some users wake up and figure out they should just buy a Mac". They'd say the same about Windows and any other Linux distro. I really don't know what makes Mac users like this but the scary thing is, they're all like this; they abuse everyone else's OS and can't find a single problem with Mac OSX. I personally use openSUSE and I love it. I have Kubuntu installed too.

Hope this helps.

Hey Lug!

It appears that some just can't understand the popularity of Ubu when it seems to them that their own distro of choice is far Superior to their needs. Ubu has something I don't think most other distros have. A out front guy directing traffic, vision, and direction. Ubu has a mission, a store, and resources. There are many distros being managed out of someones parents guest room. I use my old Ubu distro sparingly now, but it doesn't reduce my respect for its growth. I suppose it kills some to see a distro become prom queen when their date gets overlooked. Call it hype, good marketing, whatever. Ubu has been good for the Linux community, and that cannot be denied.

i think ubuntu is the best operating system in the world, but many ppl disagree, i find it easy to use and understand, i have tried many other distro's. it looks like it comes down to pettyness, many ppl cant fathom how ubuntu has grown so quickly over such a short period of time due to the fact that they go with simplicity and user

i assume this impact resulted out of your flame warfare with some OpenSUSE guy you realize who yet maximum Linux every person is in comparison to that, it somewhat is in basic terms a 18 365 days previous egoistic behaviour (I study the weblog it became disappointing) i don't get what supply OpenSUSE superiority over different Linux? using fact it has Microsoft administration Panel Interface? using fact it origins from Germany? using fact that is supported by skill of a properly enormous organization Novell Or using fact Novell is a great chum of Microsoft maximum Linux distros are the comparable merely diverse interface and how each and every distro holds them mutually using fact below the hood is the comparable kernel by skill of Linus Torvalds i visit in basic terms supply greater desirable credit for distros that are a million)stable does not wreck easily using skill of upgrading something else 2)Additonal effective aspects different Linux have not got and that i do no longer propose looks i propose applications 3)properly supported Any distro that fulfils the standards are well worth a glance and people decide for for themselevs it somewhat is their customary distro probably OpenSUSE can see themselves as better whilst they at some point a million)Get their own great advance kernel that doesn't has Linux codes i do no longer particular like or dislike Ubuntu that is merely yet another distro like OpenSUSE heavily don't get too in touch with followers stay on the direction do no longer stray like them Few Linux truly have bragging rights Slackware oldest surviving distro Debian have their own equipment administration device dpkg apt-get Gentoo have their own portage device that resembles BSD port administration crimson Hat with their RPM properly OpenSUSE makes use of RPM too so what so particular approximately it that makes it 'greater advantageous'? as properly Linux and BSDs i think of people ought to look at SunOS that is OpenSourced now using fact the present traits is multicore CPU's and SunOS has greater journey than many different OS their SPARC structures has continually been familiar for scalability it may probably have a headstart SMP algorithms too undesirable it became ported to x86_64 platform somewhat previous due so maximum x86 help is lacking
