Question:
Which is better, more practical and user-friendly, OpenOffice.org or Microsoft Office?

I just want to know what other users prefer to use and why. But I prefer to use OpenOffice.org because its free and more practical because it is compatible to a lot of file types.

This is EasyOffice

It has way more features than Open Office or Microsoft Office.

Check it out.

Syempre, there are two sides in a coin.. Pero walang connection yan sa sagot.. :D

Because you're Filipino, (as I am), I assume that you've been using MSOffice all your life. Ako rin naman. Pero try to consider that more often than not, we develop our own biases..

For an average computer user, the difference between OpenOffice and MSOffice is too minimal to notice (except maybe for the difference in the interface). For basic works, most people will feel comfortable in using both..

I don't believe that MSOffice is better for the corporate environment and that OpenOffice is just for personal workflow. First, both of these products are stable, so using them in any environment will be okay. Those who say that OpenOffice is too unstable are those who haven't tried it for themselves.

The problem of formats is one that is being resolved. I don't think that formats now present a barrier between these two applications.

Maybe, the thing that prompts many people to avoid OpenOffice is the fact that some of the MSOffice components are not part of the OpenOffice package. There is no Access counterpart, for instance. But since most of the userbase of OpenOffice use other free open-source software anyway, it's not really a big problem.

Pero in defense naman of Microsoft, the MS Office suite is still the biggest selling software suite, for both Mac and Windows..

If you have the money (or know how to pirate), Microsoft Office is much better. You'll find that the "real" version of any software is much better than its open-source alternative. I fully support the open source project, but Microsoft just does it so much better.

Bottom line, if you have money, get Microsoft Office. If you're frugal and still need a pretty good office suite, get OpenOffice.org.

I have been using MS-Office for years and find it easy to use - but the if you need to send files or attachments to friends from Open Office, remember to SAVE it as WORD 97 format else MS-Word won't accept it. I just tried the PowerPoint equivalent in Open Office and it was slower and the slides weren't as clearly focused (don't know why that should be). Cost apart, using Microsoft products guarantees "compatibly". However, I can see that Open Office is a nice "cheap" (not dear) alternative.

I've used both products for several years now (OpenOffice at home and MS at work).

Much of the actual advantage of the MS Office Suite would be applicable to larger organizations with a networked infrastructure, managing many thousands of documents. Chances are, these organizations either have plenty of capital to purchase the product, or receive it bundled with their computers through some mainstream vendor.

For the average person, the differences are negligible. Many open source solutions are comparable to the previous version of very expensive commercial products' current offerings. If you really, really need the newest widget or menu option (that isn't compatible with any of the older documents), then break out the credit card.

Otherwise, it costs nothing to download OpenOffice and decide for yourself.

I vote for OpenOffice.org given that they're free. If MS office is free, then I will probably vote for MS office. Anyway, I think OpenOffice is the next generation tools for company and home users. You can refer to my review on OpenOffice:
