ok, so I have ubuntu version 9.10, and I want to upgrade to version 10.4, I went throught the directions in the "about ubuntu" page, and the update manager no longer says there is a new version available, but my background hasn't changed, and the "about ubuntu" page still says I am running 9.10, what am I doing wrong?

To upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 on a desktop system

Press Alt+F2 to launch the command box and type in

update-manager -d

The Update Manager should open up and tell you New distribution release '10.04' is available. Click Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions

Ubuntu 10.4 is still only at beta 2 I'm not sure if you can upgrade to a beta via the usual means

10.04 is still in the beta 2 stage, so it is not yet available for upgrading.

I would wait for a couple of weeks before upgrading/updating, until the biggest bugs get ironed out. Why rush?
