winrar handles different compressed files, winrar also has its own compression algorithm, one of the most used on windows btw
winrar uses files with .rar suffix, but can alos handle zip files and lots of others
.iso is a disk image file, it can be a image of dvd, cd or even hard disk. usually you would write the image on a disk but incidentally winrar also enables you to open these and extract files.
filename suffixes(.doc .txt .jpg .mp3 .avi .mkv .torrent and so on to infinity) just tells operating system what program to use to open the file and serves as a indicator for the user about what kind of file it is
also there are lots of sites that index filename suffixes and what programs use these files like http://filext.com/alphalist.php?extstart=^A

Winrar is a file compression utility. It is used to compress a file or group of files in a folder with the hopes of making the overall size smaller. Once the files are compressed, they need to be uncompressed again using either Winrar or Winzip. There are other file compression utilities available as well, but those two have been around for ages. You can download Winrar at http://www.download.com.
An ISO image is another type of file compression, but it is usually used to make a bootable CD. Alcohol120% is a good utility that can be obtained from download.com as well.

Winrar is not a filetype, but rather an application to compress/extract a file type with .rar extension.
ISO is a disc image file.
Just ask what different file types you want to know and I'll try to answer but I don't feel like listing all the thousands of different file extensions out there.
