Personally I would boost the ram another 512MB to increase the performance and be allowed to run many of the different Linux Distributions. Even though 512 is enough in most cases it may run a little slow at times. I run PCLinusOS 2009-1 kde dual boot with Windows Xp, which is downloaded through torrents. I didn't like the 2009-2 version. Ubuntu is the one most recommended and Mint Linux for lower end computers (which is debain and Ubuntu based) Wish you the best and enjoy.

If you go to the website of the version of linux that you want to use you will find their latest version.

If you would tell us which cpu and how much ram you have we could give you some idea about which versions of linux would run best on your system. There is a version of linux for any computer, even the very old computers.

Good luck

Well there are tons of different "flavors" of Linux...I recommend Fedora or Ubuntu. www.fedoraproject.org or www.ubuntu.com. Fedora is a bit more complicated to install, ubuntu is very simple to install.

I recommend PCLinuxOS. It's the most rock solid distro I've been able to find. The only cost to you is a CD to burn it on!! Good luck and here's the link. http://www.pclinuxos.com/index.php?option=com_ionfiles&Itemid=28
