as i start windows xp, my computer says "invalid boot.ini file" but then loads normally. Should i try to repair this boot.ini file or, since my computer works alright, let it be as it is ?

You may wish to click on the link below to go to a forum on this problem where the last 2 responses are from people who seem to know what they are talking about.
you might have removed a program incorrectly and its tring to run at startup (also had removed viruses that did that to me after removing). if your windows is starting then its not a windows boot file thats corrupt otherwise windows would be unstable or not start at all. you can use your windows disk to repair if you feel neccesary to try. your best bet is to get all the things you would like to keep saved to a cd or on another hard disk drive while the system is still stable before you do any further investigation which could lead to a completly unstable system and a need for clean install and a loss of all your info... tread lightly cause you might be crashing soon.

reinstall windows.that should fix the file that's messed up.if not reinstall windows from scratch.because it sounds like a file was messed up.when windows boots up it looks for that file.if you change that file with a program to show different boot screens or make custom boot screens. it still may boot but after awhile it wont any more and you'll have to start from scratch any way.

go to the start menu, then select run...type in 'msconfig', and then to the 'boot.ini' tab, and check if you can see anything there. uncheck the file (to stop it from running when windows boots up) if you see that specific file name.
