Excel: How can I merge 3 sheets in a wk bk into one sheet?

Question

They each contain most of the same part #'s with different qty's. from different columns. I will need to make a master sheet with 3 countries on one sheet and have the part numbers merge and the quantities in different columns for each country. There are over 2000 part numbers.

If the columns match, then use COPY and PASTE.



Certainly, you can create a new sheet for the MASTER. Select the first table with your mouse, then use COPY from the EDIT menu. Then click on the new sheet and place the cursor at the top. Then use PASTE from the EDIT menu.



Then go to the second sheet. Again, highlight that sheet and use COPY; then PASTE that to the bottom of the new sheet.



Finally, repeat the process to copy the third sheet to the bottom.



Make sure that the heading appears only at the top. From here, you can select all of the Columns and SORT that data in whatever way that is needed.

It sounds like even if you copy and paste then sort or filter it could take you a while. My favorite way of doing it is to use a macro that matches up the part numbers then copies over the data from however many columns over. I can normally match up thousands of part numbers and paste the correlating data in a matter of seconds versus hours or days.



The only easy way I can think of doing it without using a macro is to use the VLOOKUP function in Excel and set the last argument of the function for an exact match. After you get the answers with VLOOKUP, then I'd recommend copying the values and using Paste Special to copy the values and number formats to get the data but get rid of the formulas. The reason why you'd want to do this is because if you delete the other worksheets and if you are using the VLOOKUP function to reference those cells to get the data, it will give you an error once those worksheets are gone.



Checkout the VLOOKUP function in Excel help. This will gather the other info for the matching part numbers on the other worksheets. The rest of the data you could just paste at the bottom.

Copy and paste your information into a new workbook is my suggestion. Make sure they are all formatted the same so that you won't get things mixed up. For example put all part numbers in column A and the qty in B. I would have to see the document to fully know what to tell you.

Or you can simply copy and paste the information to one document as well just make sure you either choose a regular paste or if you want the formulas to move choose Paste Special.
