A good registry repair software can make your computer run better by eliminating crashes and instances where your computer fall down! When you de-fragment your registry, it should also optimize the way windows stores information necessary to the operation of the system. Registry repair softwares that are not well designed could cause more problems in the long run.

Step1

A good registry cleaner look for all potential problems, but sometimes, the registry cleaner that finds the most errors is actually doing the poorest job, since it might be showing errors when there really aren't any. Some tools does it intentionally as their developers set the tool such a way so that it can show user that it is good! But the truth is that many of the so called errors are false positives. Some poor tools even can’t properly identify problems.

Step2

But as it is not safe to repair registry manually, you should get an efficient cleaning tool. Fortunately, most registry cleaners allow you to test their product for free to see which one you like best. Be sure to find a registry repair program with a user-friendly and visually eye catching interface. Also make sure the registry repair software you choose has a vivid help file resource that is updated on a regular basis.

Step3

Again, look for friendly customer support. You should prefer product that gives you 24 hour customer service and it's ideal if you can actually talk to a human being over the phone. Look for a registry repair software program that's been around for a while. You should not rely on such product that doesn't have many reviews. Also, look for good companies that have reputation on developing such technical tools and read reviews of their previously developed products.

Anti-virus software does not speed up your computer. Anti-virus software protects your computer against viruses and may even slow down your computer a bit, since it needs to be loaded constantly. What causes your computer to be slow is software which is started automatically when you turn on your computer, files which are referenced by the registry of your operating system but which are not there any more, et cetera. To solve this, uninstall all applications which you no longer require. Update your operating system and applications which you do use. Next download and install CCleaner, which is free of charge. Remove all temporary files using CCleaner and have it scan your registry for errors. Download Autoruns by Sysinternals, which is free of charge, go through every page and disable every item which states that the file cannot be found. Download PageDefrag, also by Sysinternals, and defragment your pagefile and such once the next time you start your computer.

If you are using a Windows operating System (I assume you are)

Then download JKDefrag. It will defrag your computer making it a bit faster.

Before you run JKDefrag, you should also go to your Start Menu and click Run and type "compact.exe /u /i /s" (without quotes) and press Enter. What this does is it uncompresses files that have been compacted so they can be defraged. Make sure you run the defrag once a month, to avoid your computer from being fragmented and slow.

For your anti virus. I recommend AVAST anti virus free. It scans things other anti viruses won't like bit torrent, intant messengers etc. Also you can register it.

You should also download CCleaner which cleans up old temp file and other unnecessary files on your computer. It also can clean your registry to, getting rid of what is left behind from installed programs. You should run this at least once a week, depending on how often you use your Internet.

For your web browser, I highly recommend Mozilla Firefox. It is the most secure browser out there and fast too. It is the only browser I ever use and wouldn't use anything else. You can install addons too. I recommend you download IE Tab for access IE only websites like Windows Updates.

And last thing, if you use an external mail client look Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. I highly recommend you switch to Mozilla Thunderbird. It is a lot more secure and more up to date.

These programs are something every Windows user should have.

Huang is correct in that registry issues are the most common cause of performance issues. CCleaner has long been the standard tool and is also free from www.piriform.com. Also consider that lots of desktop icons also represent a performance drain when your computer boots up; it is better to use the Start menu links than a desktop shortcut. Images used on your desktop can also eat up memory as will an active desktop. Antivirus solutions can be memory hogs and performance bottlenecks; to this end, both McAfeee and Symantec Norton have made big strides in becoming less memory intensive. I have used both Norton 2011 and McAfee Total Internet Protection 2011 and find them both to be a lot less memory intense than were previous releases. The biggest bang for the buck memory-wise can be to upgrade your memory chips. Crucial (www.crucial.com) has a great tool to analyze the memory currently installed on your machine, then show you the maximum memory available for it. Memory is pretty cheap and is easy to install yourself (with a few exceptions no thanks to HP) - usually an investment of no more than $40-90 USD will max your memory and dramatically improve performance.

The first answer from Huang Silang is good but for an anti-virus / firewall I use Kaspersky . It will not slow your start up like some programs . Kaspersky also update a few times a day which is very good because your program is always current .

The problem with slow computers is that most of the time. It's all to do with a hidden part of your system .This part of your system is called the 'registry' and is a huge database which stores all the settings and options for your PC.The reason why the registry is responsible for making your computer run slow is because it is actually prone to getting corrupt and damaged. Because Windows is constantly using the database when you're using your computer, it's constantly got 100's of registry files open. This unfortunately means that Windows gets confused, leading it to save the registry files wrong, making them incredibly difficult for your computer to read. Think of them as files which are all jumbled up, making your computer have to spend longer to read them. You just need to be able to clean out all the damaged files from the registry, allowing Windows to read all the files it needs, when it needs them. And to do this, you just need to use a tool called a 'registry cleaner'.I should like to commend Registry Easy to you ! http://clean-up-registry-faster-pc.com
