Question:
Can I have a separate pinned IE icon?
?

I have a new HP Pavillion g series laptop with Windows 7. I have Internet Explorer pinned to my taskbar. When I open IE, the pinned icon goes away, and only the button shows w/ the page I have open. In order to open a fresh Internet Explorer page, I have to go through the menu. I want it to be as it was in Windows Vista and previous versions - An icon is there, and you can open as many as you wish. (Please note that I do have the "never group similar buttons" option checked, so it's not that - This is specifically regarding the disappearing icon when the program is opened, am trying to circumvent that.) Hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance!

I think that if you Right Click on the opened IE tab on the bottom, there will be an option to open another IE window. I'm on an XP computer right now, but I know that Right Click works in Windows 7 when it comes to the Explore feature (the briefcase-style folder that lets you see your files).

Another way you might consider is to open a new tab instead of a new window.

If you create a short cut of the IE icon on your desktop then right click on the shortcut and select properties you can create your own shortcut key of your choice so just by pressing a couple of keys on the keyboard will open as many IEs as you want.

Not quite the answer you were looking for but a good work around.

As David Stephenson already answered, create a separate desktop icon.

then click the little vertical bar next to the time/date in the lower right corner of the screen

to return you to the desktop to open additional windows.

Alternately if the different windows will be for different sites that you wish to have open browser windows open for at the same time AND you are using Internet Explorer 9 IE9 will allow you to create specific pinned task-bar icons that will allow you to jump directly to that web page in a new window.

Another option is RIGHT CLICK your favorites bar items or links and choose to open them in either a new tab or new window to open them.

there are several ways of skinning this particular cat.
