I always take a photo of my important notes from my books and store it in my computer. Some times I type my notes from the photo. But I want to know whether there is some software which can convert these photos to text in computer

YES, it can be done. The term you are looking for is Optical Character Recognition (OCR). The Post Office, of all -people, are right now leading the pack in using OCR to decode written addresses on letters, but you can't afford the software and hardware that they use. Still, there are software packages out there you CAN use to interpret graphic text to transcribe notes. It is done on pocket PC's all of the time, the IPAQ series from Compaq interprets pen graphics to make plain text from written characters on a screen. The easiest graphic text to interpret is block printed capital letters, with the hardest being cursive script. Think a Doctor's signature here. You might try looking over at: http://www.tucows.com and http://www.download.com and seeing what OCR software is available. Both sites have a wealth of free and shareware programs available.

You can't.
Text recognition software only works reliably on text which is consistent like from a magazine or book, or a form where you write a block letter in each cell of the form.
It is almost a hopeless task to do accurate text recognition of freehand writing.

Yeah, I'm sorry I don't know the name of it, but I have seen it before. It's a simple text recognition software. Assuming your handwriting isn't completely horrible, this program has little trouble recognizing letters and words, converting them to text in a Word or PDF document, and then letting you work with em from there.

Check to see if your scanner software supports "Optical Character Recognition" (OCR). If so, use that instead.
There is no software that can "extract" text from an image file.
If your scanner can ONLY save as a PDF file, you can "Copy & Paste" from Adobe Reader (or Foxit Reader) to Word, etc. It's all explained in Adobe Reader's Help files.
