Unable to use Microsoft update to reinstall

I am unable to get Internet Explorer to work on a Dell Inspiron running XP home Edition service pack 3. Automatic update is working so the important files are up to date. When I click Windows Update I cannot get on the Microsoft web site to reinstall or upgrade Internet Explorer because Internet Explorer will not open.

I am doing this for a friend they want Internet Explorer not Firefox.

Any Ideas

Thanks

If internet explorer does not open at all you have to start with the operating system CD and choose the repair option or from the command prompt type SFC /scannow (still need the cd) If you only can't access Microsoft's website download explorer from another source like http://www.soft32.com/download_997.html

I would also run a full scan with a antivirus/antispyware program

cyber web Explorer isn't the perfect cyber web browser first of all, so i might recommend downloading some thing else, which contain Firefox. Its authentic elementary. purely bypass to Mozilla's web site and acquire it. it may even import issues from IE.
