i have windows 7(64 bit) and everything was perfect.few days back this problem started appearing while i started playing a movie.everytime for any video file it showed codec problem saying its too old.
now i have downloaded almost every codec available on the net and none of it worked.it's still showing the same codec problem and is showing that codec version 4.3.21.5321 is available
i didnot get any codec version of this kind on the net
i even uninstalled my current vlc player and downloaded the latest one but none of it is helping.
i am not able to watch any of the many movies i have.please help
is this some kind of a virus or trojan ????

one more thing is that my internet explorer 32 bit also stopped working with it.it shows not responding every time.
though i have internet explorer 64 bit and google chrome and i am using them for the time being but wants to know why the i.explorer is not working

the main problem still being the codec one

i am not able to play any movie through vlc, windows media player, gom player etc.
though audio files and music are good.
please help will be really grateful

Well reading your problem

I see there might be a problem with your windows registry or conflict b/w two codecs or a damaged entry.

This is especially in the case if you had installed multiple codec packs...etc. No this is not a virus or worm but it is alway good to be sure about that by running a AV scan with godd Anti Virus software(updated with latest signatures).

Trouble Shooting if this is not a virus

Plan A: Should work most of the time

1)

a Uninstall all previous codec packs

b download CC cleaner or other windows 7 registry cleaners> scan and fix registry issues

c Download klite codec pack and install it. During install give yes to allow the program to fix all previous codecs

-Check the result whether you can play movies now. Also open windows logs in start menu>control panel>system and security>administrative tools>view event logs tab and check Windows logs>Application and WL>system for recent error entries highlighted as yellow or red warning.

Plan B if plan A doesn't work

2) Try system restore

*If Plan B doesn't work than try running a check disk scan to see whether there is problem with your drive (for errors)....this may even happen due to this sometimes.

If all else fail than you have run into a irrecoverable problem reinstall the OS by backing up important data. This is last option

Very odd. IF everything worked a few days ago, just do a system restore to a few days ago!

I have never come across a video that VLC couldn't play, so I'm puzzled. Check out trendmicro.com and do an antivirus scan. Its completely free to use (though you CAN buy it)
