dunno

Been using MS Word for years. Suddenly I now can't highlight text and hit delete. I either have to delete each character, or highlight and type new text or backspace to remove the old text. I must have changed something in the setup.

You did not mention what version of Word that you are using. I am not in favor of uninstalling software. That is a shotgun approach that usually does not work. You have to diagnose what is wrong.

In 2010, Word options, Advanced, Editing options: make sure "Typing replaces selected text" is checked.

It would be easier of you note down the product key of your MS Office:

After that, uninstall and reinstall MS Office. I hope you still have the installer disc. Otherwise, you will need to download it from the web. I don't know what version and edition you have so I can't tell you where to get it. If it's the latest one then that shouldn't be difficult to download from Microsoft.

Goto seen straightforward Editor (ALT + F11). Then double click on "ThisDocument". choose all on the web page (CTRL + A) and delete it. Press ALT + Q (report -> close & go back to word).
