I use windows XP.

Have McAfee anti-virus, which stopped working on its own (and all time shows messages that updates couldn't be downloaded), ever since I got this new internet connection.

Last few days, the net download speed on my comp. has gone terribly slow and CPU usage varies from 3-4% to a high of 60-100%!!!

On windows task manager(control-alt-delete > processes), there are these 2 processes: Nujoul.exe and Svchost.exe - of which about a dozen run (of each) at the same time. What are they? Are these the ones which are slowing down my comp.?

Svchost is normal, and you should have around 7 for xp i think.

The other file i've never heard of in my life, and as its not a windows file it shouldn't be multiplying that much unless you have 10 user accounts open.

Its likely a worm or virus, and yeah, that will use your resources up. If you have trouble typing sometimes (in that the program seems to lose focus) then its basically a sure sign.

But yes, that file i've never heard of, nor does google seem to know it.

I recommend you get the three following software and use them - Anti-virus of choice (Vipre, AVG, Norton 360 ext...) use that first to do a full scan.

Then download IObit 360, its free and great - scan with that.

And last download and scan with Malwarebytes anti-malware. Another excellent program.

Hopefully they will find most issues.

Also, delete your temp folders, and look through your registry, though they might get picked up.

normal to have many svchosts running, don't know what nujoul.exe is. Right click on it and select properties, you can find out where the file is located and other details that may give you a clue to what program it is associated with or if it is malware. Check out the svchosts also for file location, they should all show the same...windows\system32. If one is different, it's bogus.

Most probably Nujoul.exe is a some kind of a malware.

Use Security Task Manager for scanning. It detects unknown malware and rootkits hidden from your antivirus software. http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/index.html

To check what is loaded in Svchost.exe you could use Svchost Process Analyzer http://www.neuber.com/free/svchost-analyzer/index.html
