Firstly you need to install both OS's on the SAME drive (c:\, for example), just in case that wasn't 100% clear.

Secondly: http://apcmag.com/how_to_dualboot_vista_with_xp__stepbystep_guide_with_screenshots.htm seems like a decent guide to setting up a dual boot.

whats up, It gained't decelerate your computer, even though it will be complicated to get it to twin boot. XP will be a lot a lot less stressful than Linux, yet do you extremely opt to spend the money for XP? you may google twin-booting with Vista and also you may want to hit upon a how-to on a thanks to do it, even though it will be complicated. I can try to help you in 4-5 sentences, or I can give you the link that I used to do it, and is a very robust and thorough guide:

How many total number of partitions you have, including recovery partition. I have seen this, when I tried to add 5th partition on a iSCSI drive.
