Windows Update did it's little auto update, it restarted like normal, and then it got to the Vista Login Screen. I typed in my password and hit continue. The desktop loaded up with the files and everything, after a few seconds I get a blue screen, saying if this is your first time, restart and if its your second time, check drivers and BIOS version. And it starts checking files and restarts. This happens everytime I restart.

I started it in Safe Mode and Safe Mode + Networking (currently) and it works, so please help me get it to run in normal mode without the blue screen.

Version: Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1
Windows Update: August 26, around 6:30 PM

StartUp Programs:
Messenger
Java JDK
Windows Update
Speech Recognition

Thanks if you need more information say so and I will add, please keep responding afterwards, Thanks for any help :)

Same thing happened to me yesterday. I restarted in safe mode... then did a system recovery to a date prior to when my computer did the automatic update and it started up fine. I let the auto-update perform again to see if it was really the problem, and i got the blue-screen again... so it has to be a problem with the new update pack. I went back and restored again then turned off auto-update and set my computer to ask me before it updates anything. Seems fine now...

Microsoft update had a glitch in it for SP1 users. So, all you need to do is start up in safemode, go to the system restore, and restore to a time prior to 8/24 (the day MS sent out the faulty update).

MS pulled the update, so it won't happen again.

This worked for me.

The same thing happened to my computer last night i guess, when i woke up this morning and turned it on just as you said, i have been trying everything all day, dell even told me to do hardware diagnostics, everything passed so i have no idea what happened, just about ready to reboot and try and download the service pack 2 and all driver updates and see if it happens again. aggravating
