I have vista home basic on my laptop. the problem is I can't install SQL 2005 on it. the error is:
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'sa'.
everyone say something about the problem, and I examine all the ways, but they did not have proper result. Please help me.

sounds like sql is installed, but you can't connect using the 'sa' account. in older versions of sql, this was called 'mixed mode'. connect as the local administrator, right click on the server, select properties, go to security, then select 'sql server and windows autentication'. this will let you login to sql server using sql accounts. if you don't know the sa password, then you can set it while you are logged in as administrator

Vista Basic is not designed for any business applications, I suggest trying Windows Business if you want to run SQL. Microsoft has some things disabled in Vista Basic.

I'd install it from the DVD that came with the product when it was purchased.
