Go to view tab, under Show/hide section, check or uncheck gridlines

Shortcut is “Alt WVG” key

Two ways:

One, on the View tab, check/unchedk Gridlines in the Show/Hide group.

Or:

Click on the Office logo on the top left and click Excel Options.

Under Advanced, scroll down about halfway until you get to Display Options for this worksheet

(or press ALT S twice)

Check the box for Show gridlines. You can change the gridline color here as well.

I had this problem when I changed the color of some cells from gray back to white.

Found my answer here: http://techie-buzz.com/how-to/grid-lines-missing-in-excel-spreadsheet-tutorial.html

Highlight the section of the spreadsheet where the gridlines are missing. Then, in the Font section on the Home tab, click the arrow next to the "Fill color" symbol (looks like a bucket being tilted to pour out paint). You'll see "Theme Colors", "Standard Colors", and "No Fill". Click on "No Fill". Your gridlines should reappear. Hope this helps.

Grid-lines are standard and universal, boarders are a format option. If you have grid-lines anywhere,(look at a new sheet) they are turn on so it only boarders that you need to consider. I suggest you go to the edit tab and choose clear all formatting, then reapply where needed. If it only a certain area, highlight it and then clear formatting and reapply.

this one has pickled me as well. i just copy and paste cells from others and then paste the contents again as ' values' only.
