Why would they want to? Windows 8 is a great opportunity to bring new users to Linux. Why blow it by making it look like what people are trying to escape?

It isn't the distros that do this, it is the desktop environments, like kde and xfce and gnome, that will do this. Most distros have all of these available, you simply choose the one you want to use.

KDE is becoming more and more windows like and more bloated, it's possible they may go with a metro look sometimes soon. Xfce aims to be just the way it is without the bloat that KDE has, so don't look for them changing anything there. And gnome - do people still use gnome?

So it's hard to say. I would say that if it is going to happen, either someone will come up with a new DTE for linux using a metro look, or KDE will go down that pathway soon.

I highly doubt that will ever happen. However, Linux is free and gives you the freedom to do whatever you want. Thus, I am sure someone will set up their Desktop Environment to look and act like metro. Metro reminds me of Gnome 3 and Ubuntu's Unity DE.

really, my laptops are operating Linux Mint. one in each and every of them is utilising Mint 9 LTS, and the different is LMDE. For ease of use and setting up, i'd advise Mint 9 LTS for you, as setting up LMDE on your twin-center is slightly more suitable in touch.

Unity is close enough, seems like we've had that for years.

Linux has android, webOS, and symbian, all excellent touchscreen interfaces.

Also availible, plasma active, E17, and gnome shell, all of which are excellent, highly productive environments that are optimized for touchscreens or has touchscreen modes available.

Why would anyone want to move backwards to a web page?
