i suggest changing your distro.
im running linux mint 10 on my acer aspire and right out of the box it comes up running, wifi, ethernet, sound and video.
I ran ubuntu a few years ago, and its great except the wifi drivers for that distro were skrewd.
I could never bind the wifi drivers to the nic, no matter how hard i looked.
anyway, I suggest linux mint 10, or possibly fedora, gnome/kde but it really depends on your client, laptop/desktop/netbook..
