Windows 7 Installation Issues on a new hard drive?

My Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7901 had a hard drive failure. I replaced the hard drive. When I went to reinstall Windows XP I realized I had an upgrade version instead of the full version. Since I had to purchase a new operating system I purchased Windows 7. When it arrived I inserted the disk everything went fine for a minute. It says loading windows files & shows the logo, then it goes to a blue screen & I get the error message STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000001 0x001003f0). The system has been shut down.

I tried using the XP disk to get to the part where it tells me to insert a full OS disk & that worked fine but when I enter my new disk it wont recognize it because it is a newer version. A few places online suggest that the files are out of sync, which makes sense. Problem I cant get the XP files off & cant go forward to finish my OS install.

Can someone help with my problem? Any help is appreciated, thank you.

go in to the bios and switch from AHCI to ide or sata

there probably is no driver for ahci,

windows 7 does not load it by default

you can change it later,

but it requires editing the registry.

Please see > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

dont forget that after you have installed windows 7

you will also have to download then install all the drivers

required by your hardware to function correctly with windows 7.

Windows 7 installation problem: hard drive not found.

When installing Windows 7, you might see one of the following error messages:

No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation.

I had this issue. The BIOS could see that there was a drive but the Windows 7 setup could not see it. I could not find the drivers from the manufacturer's web site. I fixed it by booting to an Ubuntu CD (availible from the Ubuntu web site for free) and running the disk tools. The raw drive needed an MBR added. Then I removed the Ubuntu disk and restarted using the Windows 7 setup disk, and presto. There was the unpartitioned space I needed. I hope other people find this information helpful.

start over with the windows 7 disk and reformat the hard drive.

The Fatal System Error is NOT caused by 7 being an upgrade version/

Most likely the cause is your RAM. Take it out and clean the contacts. test them one at a time.
