Some proxy servers are set up so when you try to access them, it will prompt you to download a file (a virus). Now a days, they have java based viruses where it installs it self automatically onto your computer. When you access a proxy server within a web browser, it may direct you to a java drive by which can infect your computer automatically. A good way to stay protected is to use a program called sandboxie which stops all viruses and changes to your system.

Keep in mind that "http" Proxies are divided into 3 different anonymity levels. When you use a low anonymity proxy server, the sites you are trying to access will easily recognize you as a proxy and place restrictions on you. You would need to get a High Anonymity proxy server because it shows whatever site you want to access as a regular connection and wont block access. This type of proxy (the one you are looking for) is labeled as a L1 proxy. L2 for medium anonymity and L3 for transparent. What is your method of connecting to proxy servers? Do you use a website, program, or do you enter them in manually in your browser settings?

You probably never got a virus from using one and you probably never will but the possibility does exist.

The administrator of a proxy can easily give you a virus. One method is called ARP Spoofing or ARP Poisoning. ARP = address resolution protocol. Another method is injection. The packets you are receiving are altered so a new iframe or whatever is put into a real webapge. That iframe links to a site with whatever virus the admin wants.

When you go through a proxy it's possible for the admin to do practically anything they like to the data going through it. People can just have fun with you like this - http://www.ex-parrot.com/pete/upside-down-ternet.html

That was set up to catch traffic going through wifi but the principle is the same.

You can watch TV from all countries if you subscribe to a good VPN service rather than proxy as proxy will not allow Java or Flash players most of the time. If you have a multi country VPN's then you will be able to watch BBC & ITV from Great Britain and Hulu & Fox Demand from the United States. They are used quite widely now as tablets, smart phone and even smart TV's work with VPN's now aswell as computers.

Apply a L1 proxy, they appear as a true connection. Applying a L2 or L3 proxy will come along as a proxy to several site you are seeking to get at. You can in all chance find a good deal on google.

When you use proxy server instead of connecting directly to the site, you go through some server that give you their ip so you can browse anonymously. You cannot get any virus that way because you are sending information and not receiving it, so just don't open any pop.up windows and don't download anything that you don't trust.

A proxy is used to hide your real ip adress, you can't get virus because off the proxy but you can be infected if you visit a website that distribute viruses even without using a proxy.

personally i use this free proxy : http://www.proxyfree.eu without any problem.

Hey,

Actually most proxies save your login details. but with hidemeforever or unblockmyall or hidemyall you can clear cookies to prevent this.

once you enter secure mode you should apply secure mode with networking. Your Avast should be accessible then. If no longer then verify your taskbar or classes for some thing you do not recognize and google recommendations for that virus. once you've dealt with stated virus uninstall Avast because it really is ineffective. i'd propose AVG, Malware-bytes, and ad-conscious. i take advantage of all 3 and they have not failed me yet.
