My defragmenter only defrags 44% then stops, says that some of the computers files could not be defragged and I should view the report, well I view the report and there is nothing there... The comp at work does the same thing... is there an update to fix this, is it a bug, defect, virus, etc What should I do?

You may have disk errors.

Run "check disk" check both options and restart. (runs a long time)

Run Disk Cleanup then Disk Defragment.

4 Ways to Speed Up Your Computer's Performance

http://www.microsoft.com/atwork/getstarted/speed.mspx

If your disk is full, you will not be able to defragment the disk.

If this did not fix the problem:

Start> Run> enter "sfc.exe /scannow" in the run box.

Run. You will need the windows XP disk. This utility will check all system files against the disk and repair if needed.

System File Checker (sfc.exe)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/185836

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747

If this doesn't work, do a repair install.

Repair install. (should not lose data) Backup files first.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Note if a scan detects a problem but is unable to remove, start the computer in safe mode with the internet line disconnected and run a full scan.

In severe cases your system restore files will also be infected. In these cases you will need to turn off system restore to prevent malware hiding in the system restore files and reinfecting the computer during removal or during a future system restore. Turning off system restore deletes the system restore files.

Right click on "my computer"> Properties > System Restore Tab > Check box turn of system restore

After the malware is removed turn on system restore.

For a few purpose, should you run Defrag often; the force will honestly get larger whenever. There are diminishing returns, nevertheless; and after three-four occasions jogging it; it may not get any larger. Another alternative could be to make use of an additional defrag device; like the ones associated underneath. You might, no longer strangely, discover larger outcome with third-get together program than with local Micro$oft Windows merchandise. Imagine that!

The defragger will only defrag the section of your hard drive that has files or programs on it. If you've only used 44% of you hard drive, that's all it will defrag.

The report will say some files could not be defragged, even if there are none showing. Just ignore it.

???????????

im sure you are doing correct

do this any way can"t hurt

In Internet explorer at top of window select tools - then delete browser history - then another box will open - select delete all- this will not remove your book marks -Then close explorer then open again .At first pages will be slow once and then will load fast after it loads 1 time. Also email etc you will have to sign in 1 time with pass word etc.

This will create new cookies.

Also go to start at bottom of on task bar.click start 1 time then select find or search depending on your operating system.Select all files and folders - then type in defrag and click search. When icons come up double click and new box will come up - select analyze then you will see how fragmented you are - then choose defrag. You can put this program on your desk top by right clicking on the icon you found in search for defrag.Right click choose create short cut. This will put a short cut on your desk top. Then you can use as needed in future.
