Well i wanted to try out some thing that i learned off the internet that i thought would be a cool idea (LINUX on USB) which is a bootable usb device that can load linux on multiple computers. so at the end i ended up being able to do it but it formatted my windows 7 ultimate. i was wondering how i would go back to my old operating system without paying 100's of dollars buying a new disk

If that doesn't work, or is too hard, try googling for more Partition Recovery programs.

Also, I am sorry that you accidentally formatted the drive for Linux. I hope it doesn't give you a negative opinion on Linux. Also, if you want a nice LiveUSB, try Knoppix.

Performance Editions are modified versions of the official OS. Get the official if you want pure stability.

I'm not sure what you could use WHILE running Linux, but Partition-Recover is a LiveCD/USB type of thing. Also, how did it format the drive? Did you install it by accident or was it some kind of error?

I'm glad that you like GNU/Linux then, and I hope you continue to use. Find a Partition-Recovery program, on Linux if need-be, and then get a Distro meant for LiveUSB/CD

Linux is swifter and safer then any domicile windows OS (including Win 7) yet climate you need to use Win 7 or Linux relies upon on what you presently use domicile windows for genuine now. in case you place self belief in advertisement application (distinctly Microsoft products like Microsoft workplace) and discover discovering new application to be annoying, then you shouldn't use Ubuntu. i decide directly to propose burning off or paying for the Ubuntu LiveCD and attempting it out for slightly in the past setting up it on your device. in case you like Ubuntu and can do each and everything you often can do on domicile windows, then you could set up it. or you purely throw away the LiveCD. Ubuntu very certainly twin-boots with Win 7, yet I purely propose this if there is a few advertisement application you won't be in a position of stay with out and you do no longer use that application very in lots of situations (like tax courses or video games). in case you employ particular application plenty (ie your a gamer) yet you somewhat like Ubuntu then you ought to seem into the WuBi installer. It enables you to establish Ubuntu as an application in domicile windows (and it works in Win 7). basically positioned the LiveCD into the CDchronic at an identical time as your in Win 7 and run the set up application.

in the past, i have freely downloaded versions of windows. they were "performance editions" that worked better than the official release and i didn't need any 'activation codez'. you'll find them on p2p networks.
