Also, I am sorry that you accidentally formatted the drive for Linux. I hope it doesn't give you a negative opinion on Linux. Also, if you want a nice LiveUSB, try Knoppix.
Performance Editions are modified versions of the official OS. Get the official if you want pure stability.
I'm not sure what you could use WHILE running Linux, but Partition-Recover is a LiveCD/USB type of thing. Also, how did it format the drive? Did you install it by accident or was it some kind of error?
I'm glad that you like GNU/Linux then, and I hope you continue to use. Find a Partition-Recovery program, on Linux if need-be, and then get a Distro meant for LiveUSB/CD
