I’ve had Windows Server for about 3 years now. It’s now showing me an error 1001 message. It pops up about every 5 minutes or so, along with an error 1000 message. Specifically, the Application log says this:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: SceCli
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Date: 9/7/2009
Time: 4:28:26 AM
User: N/A
Computer: MYCOMPUTER
Description: Security policy cannot be propagated. Cannot access the template. Error code = 3. \\mydomain.com\sysvol\mydomain.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\Microsoft\Windows NT\SecEdit\GptTmpl.inf.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 9/7/2009
Time: 4:28:26 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: MYCOMPUTER
Description: The Group Policy client-side extension Security was passed flags (17) and returned a failure status code of (3).

What can I do to fix this? By the way, I changed the domain name in these messages so no one can hack my stuff from seeing this.

Huh…and it’s safe to say that your Windows Server has been working until recently? Normally, this problem is because the replication service in your Server is trying to replicate a directory, but can’t find it. It’s usually because certain permissions weren’t set from the beginning.

Since it’s not that, it’s probably a registry problem. I’m willing to bet that the replication service in your Windows Server has some glitchy registry files. It can certainly cause these problems.

What I would do is download and install a registry cleaning program and run it. The one I use is here: http://optimize-your-pc.com/regcure/repairing_errors.php. Try that, and it should take care of your problem.

Most computer errors are born in a part of your system which hardly anyone knows or understands - the registry. This is the central database of Windows, which actually stores some of your computer's most important files and settings. Everything from your latest emails to your desktop wallpaper are kept in this database, making it one of the most used parts of the Windows system.Because it's used so much, the registry database is actually prone to becoming corrupt and damaged, which makes Windows struggle to read the files inside it. Unfortunately, 100's of registry files are corrupted every week and Windows has no way to protect against it - it's this problem which causes most of your computer's errors. The problem is that when these files are corrupted, your PC actually takes longer to read them and often can't read them at all. This causes errors on your PC which seem to appear randomly. You can use a Registry cleaner. http://cleanup-comuter-run-perfectly.com

Registry cleaners are tools which have been created to scan through the registry. They work by scanning each file and then checking to see if it's corrupt or causing problems. If they find that it is broken, the registry cleaner will replace or fix the file for you to make your computer speed up and become free of errors. You should have a try! Good Luck!

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.pcboostcleaner.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.
