Yep the problem sounds like a compatability one. Microsoft Word 2007 saves its documents with a .docx as opposed to .doc as in other office versions.

This is fixed though by saving it as a .doc document and here is how:

When you select save (or select 'save as' when you open the word 2007 document on the computer that can run it) Where it says 'save as type' instead of the default 'word document' Use the arrow to open the drop down box and select Word 97-2003 document.

Then you can open this on 2007 and of course 2003 and print it fine

Before you go to the office, save the documents as a Word 2002 or 2003 document. Older versions of MS Office can't read the newer file formats that Office 2007 creates. Same with Powerpoint, Visio etc.

In Microsoft Word 2007, go to the button in the top right hand corner, choose save as, and then select 'Word 97-2003 document'. Then you'll be able to open it at your office. You may get a warning come up which will say that certain features won't be carried across, but it won't be anything important, just click OK. And don't worry if you don't get that warning.

Word 2007 uses the .docx format as default for saving documents. You need to open the document in word 2007 then click on the file menu and save as word 97-2003

I think you need to Save the document as a MS office 2003 file insted.

You should save the document in Save as Office 03 format.

above users are correct in stating you need to save it as 2003 version.

you can also download/install the 2007 office compatibility pack from Microsoft. This will allow your 2003 Office programs to open files created in 2007 (without having to convert them). It's a good program to install as you may have other employees, vendors, etc sending you files they created in 2007 and you won't have to ask them to resend it in a 2003 version just for you.

you can dowload it from MS at

"Save as" rich text format under "File", it will open under any operating system and any word application.
