The only advatage of using Excell is, Schools use them ( supplied by Microsoft ) and if you have to download a test or worksheet it is usually in Excell, Business use them also as part of the MS Office group, but personally I prefer MS Works, it has a much more stable work space and is easier to enter calculations. But i suppose the best on the market is OpenOffice.Org It's FREE and not owned by Microsoft.

If it is a one-off Invoice then the program to use is probably Word, using a table format. If, however it is for regular invoicing and customers buy on a regular basis and you have set up Excel as a sales ledger, then yes you can easily do it in Excel but in reality Access is the program to use where you set up a report and perhaps on a monthly basis, run your query to extract all purchases for that month and the report, based on that query will automatically produce a report. Excel is primarily for working with figures and again for a simple invoice you could link those figures to a Word Document. You could also import or merely link your spreadsheet to Access. As I said, it depends on the complexity - if this is IT courseware project and you have to choose merely between Excel and Access, then it would be interesting to know exactly what the project is to be able to answer more appropriately.

I will say that Microsoft has dominated the market, There is a program called openoffice that you can do 95% of everything you can do in a Microsoft product!

www.openoffice.org ( it is free)

I have a love-hate relationship with Microsoft. I am almost totally off Microsoft, but there are some things Lunix just can't do!

Dear pal

WYSIWYG is the concept of Excel or for that matter any spread sheet solutions (If you are oldie then you may be able to recollect the lotus 1-2-3 solutions.

the excel facilitates you (with common wits ) handling whole of the account and formula.

Having interportablility is another advantage.

Following are the enumerated advantages of using excel or access

1. you can:Run powerful queries to sort and filter your data.

2. Run sophisticated calculations to derive the information you want.

3. Use Microsoft PivotTable and Microsoft PivotChart views to work with your data interactively.

4. Generate reports on your data and view them in multiple formats.

5. Use forms to add, change, delete, and navigate your data easily.

6. Create a Microsoft Word mail merge — for example, to mass-produce address labels.

7. Connect to external data and view, query, and edit it without having to import.

8. Create Web pages to display your data as read-only or to access it in an updatable format.

9. Import data from external databases (Access, Microsoft SQL Server) and other file types (.txt or .htm).

10 Organises data in columns, also called fields, that store a particular kind of information, or data type. At the top of each column, the first cell is used to label the column.

and above all cool and stress free to use.

All the best

Ten years ago Lotus was the premier spreadsheet software. Today hardly anyone seems to be using it. Who would have thought Excel would capture the market as it did!

There are none ;) Openoffice.org is a much better solution, and it doesn't cost a dime...but is still compatible with MS products should you need to edit the spreadsheet down the line!
