Pro's - It's a really good spell checker. It's pretty accurate and pretty comprehensive.

Con's - It suffers the same problems with all spell checkers. It can only tell you if a word is correct or not. It's not that great at telling you if you have the correct word.

For example in my last sentence if I were to have put in "It's not that grate..." it would let it slip on by as grate is a correct spelling...just the wrong word.

But that's a problem that ALL spell checkers have.

The other downside is that having real-time spell checking often causes people to lose their flow of ideas from mind to screen. When you're typing and you see that you botched a word you pause and correct it. This is why I prefer to have it off when I'm writing and then turn it on for a sweep once I'm done. If I'm blissfully unaware of my spelling blunders...I have an easier time of writing as I'm not interrupting myself all the time.

Piers Anthony is an author that is a clear indicator of what happens when you get a spell checker. You could actually tell at what point in his writing career he got a computer with a word processor (Golem in the Gears) because his style quality diminished for several books before he regained his stride.

The benefits of the spelling check in Microsoft Word are that you can make sure your documents go out with proper English . While typing in Word, if the program thinks there is a typographical error or grammatical error, it will place a red squiggly line under the word or punctuation mark. The internal dictionary also does not recognize names as being spelled correctly. The internal dictionary also does not pick up if you accidentally typed a number in the word. Some of the words that Word has said were wrong are juris prudence, ad litem, Britny and Speece.

The benefits of the spelling/grammar check in Microsoft Word are that you can make sure your documents go out with proper English and proper grammar. While typing in Word, if the program thinks there is a typographical error or grammatical error, it will place a red squiggly line under the word or punctuation mark. A lot of times, when working with Latin and Spanish words, this feature is not always accurate. If you configure the program for English, it will continuously tell you that you have misspelled words. The internal dictionary also does not recognize names as being spelled correctly. The internal dictionary also does not pick up if you accidentally typed a number in the word.

Some of the words that Word has said were wrong are juris prudence, ad litem, Britny and Speece.

I personally use spell check all of the time by hitting F7 before saving my document and sending it out. I also re-read my written communications in order to check for any words that may have a number floating in it.

Assuming you have it set to the correct language:

Pros:

It will often pick up on typos which you have overlooked.

It will give you a quick summary of errors and suggest corrections.

It can be overridden when required.

You can create a custom dictionary.

It no longer comes with a talking paperclip.

Cons:

It can make people lazy. There is no substitute for a good, old-fashioned proof-read.

It is not infallible (see the poem "Eye Halve A Spelling Chequer" at http://www.greaterthings.com/Humor/Spelling_Chequer.htm )

It's not very good at technical/specialist vocabularies.

It's generally useless at names.

There are many kinds of advantages of Microsoft Spell Checker. Mostly this checker shows spelling errors and sometimes also shows the grammatical suggestion. The spell-check and grammar check features of today's word processing software gives us advantages, too. If you misspell a word correct spellings are offered to you (www.nounplus.net).

It's mainly used for American English.

Not Proper English.

Example, Proper way of spelling "Criticise" American "Criticize"

Its a flipping S not a Z!!!

That's one disadvantage.

Abhishek ITS NOT PROPER ENGLISH!!
