Well why do you want a Mac?

I have a laptop and its running windows, I don't mind that it's not a mac. Although I did want a mac, just because they are expensive lol... and i liked the way the desktop looks, til I realized you can fix your windows up to operate the same, so now I have no need for a mac.

I have been running on windows all my life, they are cheaper than a Mac, but in reality is a Mac better just because a 15inch cost $1000? No, price really is just a bunch of numbers, you may think "1000 dollar laptop, i'm getting my moneys worth" but you're not. Apple is just a name, just like HP, Dell, Acer, Asus and all of them, inside they all basically have the same technical stuff, like ram, a processor, a hard drive.. really no different btu the operating system.

So to answer your question, stick to a PC, honestly. Like the other answer said, they have windows 7 now which is great.

Well if its a money issue your not going too. Give her the argument that with a computer you get what you pay for this computer will last you alot longer then a stander pc as the apples do. you can spend the price for two pc's now or you can buy two pc's in the time it will take for the apple to wear out. You also can tell her about how much more secure apple is as their base code is not out there like a pc is so its alot harder to write viruses and malware for a apple which is why there are alot less people with apples having virus problems youalso can run any windows based program on a mac. Me personally i would get the laptop because they are just as good and they have all the same adaptions as the desk top and you can take it to school i'm just saying get the macbook with the aluminum case will last forever. Also look into a refurbished one they are usuially 300 to 400 dollars cheeper and they come with the same if not better warrenty refurb is allways the way to go with apple. this might or might not help

I have a Mac but its a book so I can tell you from a personal experience. If your sister doesn't have a Mac, I don't know why she's opening her big mouth in the first place?

Mac's are way better than PC's, overpriced, but it's totally worth it. My macbook was over 2,000 dollars, but it really is great. You have everything you need on, becides Mac's get infected a LOT less with viruses than PC's do that's a fact. Mac's have much higher quality and I think personally that they load a lot faster and better.

I gotta warn you though, Desktops a way higher priced than laptops are. So if you want it really bad and can't convince her into the price, ask for the 900$ (I guess you gotta convert that to euros?) original macbook.

Well if you compare the hardware in macs and just normal pcs on windows operatings systems, you get alot less for your money with macs.. But what they lack in system value they make up for in easy usability and neat looks.

She probably doesn't buy into your "I won't go to prom" thing. But you can always say that a couple of your friends have macs and that they give them way less problems then windows. Also, there are more computer viruses made for windows then for macs, so you could always try bargain with that. You could also just say you need it for school work or something

You could always just buy one yourself if you wanted it that badly (your old enough to have a job)

good luck!!

They're not better. They are simply different.

1. They do have malware. Several hundred variants at this point. This is only going to go up thanks to the lack of security in Snow Leopard.

2. OS X is horribly insecure thanks to it's poor design and lack of DEP and ASLR.

3. Why can't you buy it yourself? I bought my own machines when I was a teenager.

I'm not a Microsoft fanboy. I have several Macs, and I'm about to be a certified Macintosh technician, among other apple certs. Apple maintains a good standard of quality, and they have a good interface. Unfortunately, their operating system lacks functionality and security.

You can find far better machines from various PC makers, and Windows 7 is by far the best operating system I have ever seen in terms of security, interface, and functionality.

Back in 2004 I bought a Mac laptop. I paid like $1000 for it and didn't get anything fancy since I was just using it for the internet and for basic things like typing papers, making spreadsheets, etc. No programming, gaming, etc.

At the same time, my mother in law bought a PC laptop and paid about $750. A year and a half later she had some fatal virus that killed her computer. She even had anti-virus software on it. So she bought a new one and spent about $600. She had that one for a year and a half and it died on her. She bought another one and spent about $500. She still has that one but is constantly calling us to fix it because there are all kinds of pop-ups that won't go away, spyware, etc. Plus, it's sooooo slow. Seriously, you turn it on and it takes at least 5 minutes before you can do anything.

So, 5 years ago I spent $1000. In that same time she spent at least $1850 AND not to mention the money she paid to the people who tried to save her computer. Plus, I turn mine on and in less than 30 seconds I'm ready to go. I don't worry about spyware, viruses, popups, etc. We own 4 Mac laptops (2 circa 1994 iBooks a new MacBook and a new MacBook Pro) and we have never had a problem with any of them, other than the battery dying on one of the iBooks.

I still have that laptop and it works just fine. I gave it to my son to use for school and bought myself a new MacBook about 3 months ago.

I have no plans on going back to a PC!

You can show your mom my post. Hopefully it will help.

Thats as a results of fact macs are crap... easily... they're surprisingly overpriced for what they do, they could't be upgraded and its extra durable to discover utility for them. specific there is the "Macs cant get viruses!" yet thats in uncomplicated terms as a results of fact not often anybody ordinary makes use of them so no person making viruses wastes time making them for macs. in the journey that your spending your man or woman funds for a mac I surprisingly recommend you look right into a common workstation. you will save a LOAD of money. yet yeah... your in uncomplicated terms argument to tell your mom of why you need to get a mac is viruses and that i assume as a results of fact they look "cool"

If your mum is a tech savvy type, she will certainly know which one is better herself. If she is not good at such ... she will not really understand it anyway even after a sermon. :) So, If I were you, I'd tell her that I want Macs more than windows PCs, coz, I know how to use them better than PCs.

just tell her macs:

1. have no viruses

2. macs are all in one ( all u need is the screen...it takes up less space)(you don't need one of those big things (cpu) that microsoft has)

3.if your mac breaks just bring in to any apple store and they will fix it no matter what

4.the mac commercials are awesome

Windows is dominated by viruses and worms (malware). Anti virus programs are always playing catch up and the best ones only catch about 75 to 90 percent of the malware. You have to keep paying for commercial anti virus programs.

Almost every single malware program relies on flaws in Microsoft Windows - programming errors in the OS itself, to be blunt. There is no shortage of these and the number of new malware increases by a staggering amount each day.

The Washington Post has repeatedly recommend this month that people not use MS-Windows computers to do their online banking. Instead, use something else, they say.

The latest generation of malware for MS-Windows removes money directly from your bank account, without your knowledge - and then hides it from you. This is assuming you use MS-Windows to do your banking. So far high profile victims of this include a high tech company that had $400,000 deleted from its corporate account and a Catholic church that lost a small fortune as well.

Banks are not responsible for your PC problems: you picked the OS, you hooked it to the Internet, you chose what web browser to use - they did not. So, you are the victim, not the bank. Generally, the bank is not going to be successful getting your money back for you, if they even try. It is going to go to a bank account in some obscure city in Europe or Asia that you have probably never heard of and be removed immediately from there.

The new Macs are compatible with Microsoft Windows so if you choose to install that OS someday you will be able to run Windows applications. Most Mac users are Windows expatriates and have no desire to have Windows on their computer. Others, like myself, have bought Windows for their Mac only to discover that they almost never used it.

There is a native version of Microsoft Office (or just Microsoft Word, if you prefer) that you can buy for the Macintosh. Alternatively, you can buy Microsoft Windows + Microsoft Office for Windows on your Macintosh. But it is cheaper to simply buy the Macintosh version.

If you are not required to use Microsoft Windows, Apple's iWork software includes applications like Pages and Numbers that are a very nice word processor and spreadsheet. It is far less expensive than Microsoft Office.

If you are getting Viruses on Microsoft Windows now this will continue to be the case for as long as you have your current and next PC as well. No drastic reductions have taken place for MS-Windows malware. Just the opposite. They increase and number and deadliness every years. Many, many people are in the business of creating and spreading MS-Windows malware.

People who make their money off of MS-Windows articles, protection software have been saying Macs will get theirs soon. But they have been wrong every year for all 5 or 6 years they have been saying that, and to give them proper credit - they have all been ineffective at stopping the malware menace on Microsoft Windows. It is worse now than ever and there is no reason to believe these pundits will be right about Macintosh or good at fixing Windows' ills next year either.

The iMovie application for the Mac is included with the iLife bundle and is often included free with Macs and annual upgrades come out most years for a small price. The nice things about iMovie are: compatibility with a broad amount of camera devices, nice integration with Mac applications, support for industry standard file formats, and availability of extensions for special effects and titling.

Hardware specs in terms of processor speed on an iMac are on par with a very good PC. You can get a faster PC if you want to pay $6,000. Of course, you can get faster Macintosh computers if you need a professional workstation and have a commercial budget. For home or normal office use, you are not going to need that extra bit of speed - nor do most Windows PC owners.

Also, to be blunt, even though it is nowhere near 100% effective, anti virus software for Windows PCs slow them down enormously. This reduces the effective speed of your processor and the effective amount of RAM you have in your computer. If you do not run the anti virus software then the viruses and worms can slow down your computer a good bit too. You cannot win with Windows.

The latest iMac has a beautiful display. The technology and the design is now a cut above what you see on other computers as you look around at stores. It is also true 16:9 (HD) aspect ratio. So, if you want to do a lot of video editing or TV watching (see EyeTV products) then you are probably going to love having a Mac.

Apple has almost two decades of experience with digital video. That is how long the QuickTime video format they invented has been around. Plus, the head of Apple, Steve Jobs, has been running Pixar (recently sold to Disney for billions of dollars) since the mid-1980's - over 20 years.

Apple's and Steve's experience with producing, editing,
