Now and then the pc will go slow, i'll open task manager to see whats using cpu the most and its nearly always "explorer", i end the task then run explorer again and its fine. Is there a fix to stop this happening?

No! The CPU uses the resources it needs to do a job. If your opening a page that has a load of graphics and wording then the CPU is going to do a lot more work than opening a practically plain page.
In fact when you open your browser first off the CPU works at a 100% to get the browser up and running. The same as it does with any program.

System Idle Process should almost always be at 99% (ie. yr cpu is showing that it's waitin to be told to do stuff...) unless you run an application (firefox, iTunes, whatever...). Explorer.exe (what yr seein on the screen, the windows 'shell') should only hit 50% cpu if yr doin somethin like copyin data to an external device, like usb or bluetooth or whatever. [/school lesson] :)
Long story short: if explorer.exe is frequently stealin cpu time, you've most likely got a problem, possibly some kinda viral nasty. Or an app that's misbehavin. Make sure yr windows updates are recent, you have good AV/firewall software. Also, jst cos explores.exe shows 50% cpu use, it doesn't mean it's the problem; somethin else might be messin about and causin it. Check MSCONFIG from the run... command, see what startup apps are runnin. Check event viewer to see what system logs there are.
Sorry if that's a touch vague, haven't had my caffeine quota for the day...

Internet Explorer slows down part of your computer's system.
It is also considered less safer than the better web browsers downloaded on the web.
Try Mozilla Firefox, it is safer, faster and doesn't hang your computer. Download it at www.download.com and please don't uninstall internet explorer, because it can cause some fatal errors.
Good Luck!

Explorer is the main process which is the desktop.
