Question:
Help with Windows Media Player 11, .avi files?
2008-09-15 00:51:51 UTC
I am unable to play .avi video files in WMP 11. The error message that displays online suggests that I need an audio codec, however, I have never had any problems with audio for any type of file before. I downloaded the GSpot codec detector and according to it, it is an Xvid codec, which I do have installed. However, if I try to render the file using GSpot, the rendering fails and I receive the exact same error code that I get when I try to play the file in WMP (80040241). However, the files will play in Microsoft Media Player (Start--Run--mplayer32.exe). I have been everywhere on Microsoft's online troubleshooting pages without any luck at all. I can usually figure out any computer problems that come up, but this one has me stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
PS. Please only answer if you actually know what you are talking about.

no, it ability which you do not have the formats mandatory to play that avi report. i distinctly advise Ace Mega Codec %. because of the fact it particularly is the main finished i've got got here across so a techniques. Why in the international could u use domicile windows Vista rather of XP is previous me, because of the fact the bugginess of Vista is easily common. i can't improve to vista until ultimately they restoration each and every of the stuff incorrect with it, and there is lots, beginning with the direct x 10 compatibility themes, and ending with formats etc etc. employing that codec %. i stated could desire to restoration ur avi report issue, yet domicile windows Vista sux annoying imo. reinstall domicile windows XP if u desire all your video games and classes to run. there are too many incompatibility themes in vista, and imo having a three-d shifting heritage, and a nicer interface isn't properly easily worth the worry yet.

Could be the the .avi audio stream is in acc which therefore not supported by windows media player, so you'll need to use another player to watch the movie. Quicktime , Nero showtime, powerdvd or some of the dvd playing software will do it.
