I rely on file shortcuts at work to efficiently search for and move between select file folders. So our IT guy decides to move the thousands of source folders & files to a new network drive, and of course, the hundreds of shortcuts which I had carefully organized & created are now just broken links. Now I find myself wasting a lot of time looking through dozens of sub-folders to search for a folder that used to be one double-click away. Rather than restore or recreate the hundreds of broken shortcuts, just to have the problem happen again when our IT guy decides he needs rename or change the locations again, I find myself wonderingif there is a better way to solve this problem. Why doesn't Microsoft have a way to link the shortcut directly to the object (the folder or file) itself? That way, when the object is moved, cut and pasted, or renamed, the shortcut still works? Does anyone know if there are any programs/apps available that might solve this headache? I'm by no means a computer expert, but am I the only one who seems to think that it is stupid that Windows would program shortcuts that wouldn't update with it's source object? I find it interesting that programmers can make a computer that can play on Jeopardy, but something as fundamental as having a object linked shortcut is not a standard Windows feature. OK, enough rant, lets here your thoughts...
