From experience as in like the last 3 weeks I had xp and had to get professional, for school. I started downloading the product and it stopped and would not go further, I contacted technical support as it suggested and found out the even tho you have the other your computer does not like getting the upgrade. CALL YOUR COMPUTER COMPANY NOW and also make sure that you have what ever is already on your computer saved I lost everything and had to pretty much start from the beginning, my computer is working fine now actually better. Yes this was a hassle but it was better then crashing my computer and then having to purchase a new one. PLEASE do this the way i said it will work I jpromise

there are two downloads of xp sp2, on is for the computers which have xp without sp1 and another is for computers with sp1. Check your computer if it has xp sp1 and then download appropriate version.

If it has messed up, then you will have to reinstall windows in order to make a successful installation of sp2

Can you have a friend download and burn it to a cd and then try to install it? If your computer doesn't allow the install it could be and old corporate edition of xp that's on your pc (meaning it's pirated).
