So I got a new laptop today and I used a pen drive to take all the files off my old laptop to my new one. However, when I put my pen drive into my new laptop it said 'USB needs formatting.' I don't want to do this, as it apparently removes all my files from the drive.

I looked up how to retrieve files and it said to use 'Chkdsk' or something like that with Command Prompt however when I tried to do it, it came up with "System file is RAW. Chkdsk is not available for file system RAW'

I tried it on both PCs and neither works?

PLEASE HELP I DON'T WANT TO LOSE MY FILES! :(

Sorry but they're already gone. I suspect there was either a problem (software or hardware) with the USB drive which is most likely, or you disconnected it before the old computer was finished writing and that corrupted everything.

Now the only place where you could realistically recover your files is the old computer.

As for the pen drive itself, formatting it might be a good solution for it to work properly.

Before you boot the computer up, put the drive in a usb port then boot the computer up once windows (sucks) boots up you will see the usb drive click on it then you'll see all your files will be fine..... and you'll be able to read and write to the drive....

you may search in google "asoftech usb needs format" for some guides.
