Question:
Norton System Works 2006 and Norton Security 2006 slowing my computer?

I think Norton 2006 is slowing down my computer. I had Norton 2005 and when I upgraded to 2006, all hell broke loose.

My computer, both my Dell Precision and Dell Latitude(both close to top of the line, and brand new) seems to be slow since I installed Noton 2006.

I've had major problem with Norton 2006 and my desk top. It messed up my system and I had to call Dell support to have my Windows XP Pro, clean installed.

Are anyone else having problems with Norton 2006 systems?

I'm planning on removing Norton 2006 and use bitdefender Antivirus Plus v10 on both my computers.

Do I still need a firewall or is the Windows firewall good enough?
Has anyone had good luck with bitdefender?
Do I still need some type of a systemworks? Defrag, go-back etc.?
What is wrong with the stupid Norton 2006? Earlier versions were better!

Norton is known to be a resource hog. Read the articles below [especially page 3]. Apparently, norton 2007 is slightly better but still eats up a lot of resources [see the updated article]

I've never used bitdefender myself and i havent come across many who have [or many who says its good - and i do go on a lot of techie sites] so i cannot comment.

I've personally used both norton internet security and systemworks and both are ok on my pc [it does depend on your own pc specs tho]. But i dont use it now as there are much lighter and better firewalls out there. One reason why i stopped using norton firewall was because soemthing kept on disabling the antivirus. So norton wasnt good enough for me.

Yes you DO need a firewall. Windows own fireall is NOT good enough. If i recall correctly, it doesnt prevent unwanted outbound connections [amongst other things]. Its very basic and doesnt look at the various different types of exploits out there.

systemworks i have to admit was good for me. I'd still use it but there are other good programs outt here that do what systemworks do, but uses fewer resources. To name a few - tuneup utilities, jv16, etc. Defrag i use Perfectdisk [diskeeper is also good].

For systemworks, you DO need a defragger. yes windows has its own but there are much better ones out there. When i used to use systemworks defragger, i found that it never defragged properly. Had to do it several times. Regarding go back - i used it once and it messed up my pc. i never used it again and ate up to much space too. You have windows system restore anyways from windows.

Most likely, yes. Loading too many programs like that will slow down your computer garrunteed. I would just use the windows firewall, it works good enough and if youre behind a router you dont need it as bad anyways. Ive never used bit defender, I use avg free and it works fantastic. You really dont need any of that crap, that **** is all resource hogs. I would stick to avg free, firefox, ad aware, and some others and make backups and you should be fine. One program out of that bunch that is truely fantastic is ghost, i would use that hard core. Then click start >> run, type in msconfig, then shut it off on system startup.

Norton Sucks, that's all I can say

don't understand why people even install it

if you know what you doing you don't need any anti viruses, I never installed one and never had any problems, you can only get a virus if you download something that you don't know :) or if you open e-mail from someone that you don't know :)

p.s. Norton teamed up with Microsoft that's why new versions are not working as they should :) Microsoft programs are not meant to work, they meant to suck money out of people :)

How come there are only few known viruses/spyware/adware for MAC's? LoL

no viruses/spyware/adware means no money for companies :) it's all about business :)

!!!If the virus is new no antivirus in the world would catch it!!!
