Yes it is, I have some PCs with 3 or more OSes running on them.

But, there are lots of things that can go wrong, if you don't know what you are doing. So, it makes more sense to put Linux on an old retired PC, and run it as a Live CD, without even trying to install it.

Then, if you like it, install it along side Windows or, replace Windows, it's your choice, and the Linux Installer takes care of the rest. And, if you mess up, no harm done.

TIP: Read the Linux Installation Guide FIRST, from the same website you got the Linux ISO, for more info.

Yes, you can install both operating systems on your computer. This is known as dual-booting. It's important to point out that only one operating system boots at a time, so when you turn on your computer, you make the choice of running Linux or Windows during that session. If you're interested in running Windows programs under Linux, you should see the section: Can I run applications for MS Windows on Linux?

If you're going to have this kind of a system, it's important that you install the Windows operating system first in the first partition of your hard disk. You can then install Linux and along with it a program known as a bootloader (nowadays, the most popular are LILO and GRUB) which allows you to choose your operating system. The Linux installation process, in most circumstances, leaves your Windows partition alone during the install. Installing Windows, however, will destroy the information left by bootloaders and so should never be installed second. Due to Microsoft's monopoly on operating systems, most computers have Windows on them before anyone contemplates installing Linux, so you may have to repartition your hard disk - that is, divide what may be a hard disk with only one large partition (known as C: in the Windows world) into two or more different partitions so that Linux can be installed and kept separate from Windows. Third party tools such as Partition Magic generally work well for this purpose. After the re-partitioning, you're free to install Linux.

Due to the increasing availability and reliability of virtualization technologies, there are also methods to run versions of Microsoft Windows in "virtual machines" inside Linux. One can also run versions of Linux inside Microsoft Windows.

Yes you can and it s not too difficult.

Assuming you have Windows 8 or later, make sure you have Hyper-V installed. If not, go to Control Panel, and from there to Turn Windows features On or Off , and tick the box for Hyper-V. This is the manager that sets up virtual machines on Windows systems. Once it s installed, you can install any other OS into it, any Linux or any other version of Windows.

Once it s set up, you can just click a desktop icon to run your Linus distribution in a window in Windows. It d be helpful to use google to find about the particulars of doing this.

Yes definitely, you can have both the operating systems. Also for security purpose linux is much better option. Even I am using both of them. For Windows, I have purchased the virus support plan of AskPCTechies and linux is free from virus issue.

Yes- I have w7 and Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop.

Its pretty easy to do- ElfaGeek gives the right answer.....TRY it first before you install it- either with a live dvd or on an old computer.

............................................

If you decide to do it-

Two very important things-

1. DO NOT!!! MAKE PARTITIONS on your computer....don't do that. Let the Linux you are installing handle that. You just follow instructions on install disk to "install alongside windows.

2. Before you start- just in case- download and install Easy BCD in windows- and just let it sit. Later if you decide you do not want Linux.....just boot into windows and start Easy BCD- follow directions to remove Linux and reclaim your disk space, and windows boot-loader. Its as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Most people here are shouting "Yes, you can dual boot" but there is another method that avoids the dual boot scenarion called virtualisation (American spelling: virtualization.) There are a number of software products available, the most famous of which is VMware. Check out Oracle and Microsoft's offerings as well to get a good opinion on which suits your needs. Virtualisation allows you to create controlled environments running other operating systems on top of your main one.

I have used mostly Ubuntu Linux for six years and you will like it. There are no viruses written for Linux so download what you want.

Yes, you can that is called Dual-Booting. A dual-boot computer is one that is capable of running two different operating systems (but not at the same time). It's also possible to build computers than can boot three or more different operating systems, which are called multi-boot computers.

of course yes... the only thing you should check on is your available hard drive space and your available memory space so you wont get in trouble with errors and stuff...while installing please dont make a partition. After installing, you can easily restart the computer and then you get to choose what os you want to use....

?

yes this is possible but when you do this after sometime you will face many issues so I suggest one time one operating system is best in one system with one hard.
