In the device manager, is the driver properly installed? I'm quite sure it's not actually. If you cannot find a Windows 7 Driver, try the Vista driver. If you plug in your headphones (try both back and front of PC), does the audio work then? If this last thing is the case, you have encountered the Windows 7 Audio incompatibility issue. I've ran into this a couple of times. This happens often with HP's actually. I never got around to fixing that issue to be honest

Is the device (Audio) showing in Device Manager, if yes, try to delete and restart , it should detect and configure automatically on next boot. If it is not chk any item showing with Yellow Exclamation mark or Unknown Device in Device Manager.

Few things to check...
is your volume low or high?
is your volume on mute?
And if your computer is older than 2 years, your audio card might have died.
