I think my son my be doing illegal things on his pc. I need a remote access program that will not be visible on the pc I want to watch. Also is there any way I can install the program from my computer? I have file-sharing access to his hard drive.

Well my answer might not be what you wanted to hear but I think its better to talk to your son instead of playing cat & mouse.

At work I use a program called AB Tutor. It allows me to chose any computer on my network and view it as if I were sitting at that particular pc.
It is ONLY for remotely monitoring......in other words you cannot "control" the pc remotely just watch. It sounds like this is what you are after.
If it is indeed Remote control you are after then you want a program called "Real VNC".

nah there isn't software which you can just install on a machine without having access to that machine unless they (the user of the machine) themselve install it while sitting at the machine whether they realise it or not - this is for obvious reasons.
in terms of available software, try out ultravnc which is free from:
http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
it allows you to view the screen of the remote computer as if you were sat at it - you will see everything that they see.
ultravnc (and others) also have the option of doing a silent install, with various options for not allowing the program to be easily seen on the machine it is installed on.
