iexplore.exe Eats Up My System Resources: What SHOULD I do?

Question

I can't help but notice that iexplore.exe tends to eap my system resources (I'm running VISTA).

Right now, it's at about 27K, but not long ago it was 77K.

How can I fix this problem?

Vista is a large program and does use a lot of resource, however, you can help the situation by freeing up as much RAM as possible:



1. Set wallpaper and screensavers to blank or none — they run continuously in the background and use memory.

2. Review your start menu – remove anything you don’t need on a daily basis — load games, etc. on an as-needed basis.

3. From Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options: delete cookies, delete files (offline), and clear history. (You can also set days to store history to 0.)

4. Run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, Defrag at least every two weeks (the more frequently they are run, the less time they take).

These things should increase speed and free up memory as much as possible.

you can use firefox but im not certian how much that would free up. You can try going to tools right above the scroll bar and go to internet options and deleting cookies and temporary files however if its running at 27 i doubt thats the problem. with vista you can get those usb memory devices that you use for storage, and use them to speed up the system or give you more resources. It acts like adding ram only its cheaper. I just bought a 4gb for $56 at walmart and I just leave it in the usb port with nothin on it to speed up the system. when you put it in, speed up system is one of the options on the auto play window.

first of all run an antiviral tool, virus scanner

if everything is ok do the following

insert your windows cd on tray and from the start menu choose "run"

then there type "cmd"

then in the black box window type "sfc /scannow" (no quotes)

then windows should start repairing itself



some viruses spyware can get the name of a legitimate windows file and hog the resourses of your machine

Do you have a BARE MINIMUM of 1 GB of memory? If not you'll need to get more memory. Otherwise, you can't do much besides getting a faster processor with a bigger L2 cache. And of course getting rid of unnecessary programs that are just taking up your memory.

Sometimes, it really is hard to use Internet Explorer. It may depend on your configuration. Try using Firefox.
