Opening a .PST file in Outlook Express?

My dad needed some files from his work computer, but the security on it wouldn't just let him copy them to an external hard drive. I don't understand it fully, but the point is the IT people put what he needed into a .PST file. After a bit of googling I saw that a PST file is for importing addresses from MS Outlook 2000 - 2007. My dads computer uses Outlook Express and only looks for .WAB files when he tries to import addresses. There is obviously a version compatibility issue here and I would like to know if there's any way he can get what he needs.

Addresses are in WAB, but messages are in PST. File, Import, Messages would be the place to look.

The .pst file is the personal folder for storing emails in that is used by Outlook. Outlook Express will not recognize .PST at all.

Since your father has Outlook at work, then he needs to export the .PST file into a file type that Outlook Express can use. I've found you a very straightforward basic set of instructions for him to use. Give this to him. It shows him exactly how to export his .PST into a file that OE can recognize, and then shows him how to import that file into OE when he gets home.

File> Open - then browse for the file.

Then look in the folder list.
