You can't transfer every thing.

As 'D' is empty, you should reorganize.

1. transfer all 'Data files' to 'D'

2. transfer all .exe files

This should be enough to start with.

Recardo is incorrect in his statement. For instance servers often have dozens of hard disks in them. It could have been set up with backup in mind but that does not mean that you have to use it that way. That said, you might not be able to get everything off of the C drive as 40GB isn't a whole lot nowadays.

I would recommend that you be selective on this but open up explorer, select to view folders so that you can see both the D drive Icon and the files/folders you want to move. If you cannot see them all, open up another explorer window and open it up to the D drive. I do suggest that you select entire folders or sub-folders to do this. Do an alt-click to select the individual folders you want to move at one time or select a group in sequence. Then right click and drag them over to the D drive. It will ask if you want to copy or move, to which you select move. The icons, especially on your desktop, might not get updated to the new location so you might have to manually change the location by right clicking them, select properties and updating target and start-up in specifications.

Now truthfully, you might be better off moving your documents, videos, music and the like instead of programs. Many of them are larger than some of the programs.

The D drive is for backup and restore data only!!!

No other program or file in any case can be placed there if its no directly related to windows backup or restore. Get an external hard-drive if you are that desperate it will run you about 50 dollars for a good 100-300 gig drive. Best buy, fry's, circuit has for cheap since they are near bankrupt, and online if you know where to look.

You cannot do that.
